Situated in the New River Valley, approximately 20 miles north of the Parkway via Route 8, lies the town of Christiansburg. This one-time residence for folk hero Davy Crockett is the fourth largest town in Virginia. Here, visitors can take a trip down memory lane at the Starlite Drive-In – one of the last outdoor movie theaters in the area – or make real tracks in Montgomery County along the Montgomery County Artisan Trail featuring local artist studios and regional agriculture sites.
Radford, Virginia lies just west of Christiansburg. Surrounded on three sides by the New River, Radford is the New River City with easy access to the entire New River Valley. Arts and culture opportunities abound, including the regular Monday evening fiddle and banjo jams.
Less than 10 miles north, the town of Blacksburg is home to Virginia Tech. Extensive recreational opportunities including the six-mile Huckleberry Trail Greenway and Jefferson National Forest create many opportunities for outdoor exploration around this region.
